Butter Cake Recipe (8-inch square or round pan)

Ingredients
250g unsalted butter (softened)
200g caster sugar
4 large eggs (room temperature)
250g self-raising flour (sifted)
60ml fresh milk
1 tsp vanilla essence

Method
1. Preheat oven to 150°C. Grease and line an 8-inch cake pan.
2. Beat butter + sugar until pale, light, and fluffy.
3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
4. Fold in flour alternately with milk until smooth batter forms.
5. Add vanilla essence, mix gently.
6. Pour into prepared tin, level the top.
7. Bake for 50–60minutes, or until golden brown and skewer comes out clean.
8. Cool in pan for 10 mins, then transfer to wire rack. Slice and serve.
