Subway-Style Sandwich Bread

Ingredients:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm water
1 tbsp instant dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil

How to make it:

1. Mix the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a small bowl. Let it sit for 3–5 minutes until it gets foamy.

2. In a big bowl, stir together the flour, salt, and olive oil. Pour in the foamy yeast mix and combine until you get a rough dough.

3. Knead it on a clean counter for about 5–8 minutes. Push it out with the heel of your hand, fold it back, turn, and repeat. It should turn smooth, soft, and bounce back when you press it.

4. Put the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and leave it somewhere warm for about an hour, until it doubles in size.

5. Punch it down gently, knead for another minute or two, then split into 4 pieces. Roll each into a long log, roughly the same size.

6. Place them on a baking tray, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffy. Brush with a little oil and, if you like, sprinkle some herbs on top.

7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 25 minutes, until golden brown.

8. When they come out, brush with olive oil and cover with a clean kitchen towel while they cool. The crust will soften up nicely.

Serve it however you like. I tried mine with lettuce, cheese, mayo, ketchup, and crispy paneer balls, but they’ll go with anything.
