Cake Ingredients
* 1 & 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 cups granulated sugar
* 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

* 1 cup milk (low or full fat)

Cake Instructions
* Prep: Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C). Grease and flour or line two 9-inch round baking pans.
* Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
* Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
* Boiling Liquid: Carefully stir in the boiling water or hot coffee. The batter will be very thin.
* Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
* Cool: Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting (Standard Base)
Frosting Ingredients
* 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
* 3-4 cups powdered sugar (icing sugar)
* 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 4-6 tablespoons milk
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* A pinch of salt
Frosting Instructions
* Butter: Beat the room temperature butter in a stand mixer until light and fluffy.
* Dry Ingredients: Sift in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, adding them one cup at a time. Mix on low speed until fully incorporated.
* Liquid: Mix in the milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy. Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired consistency.
* Assemble: Once the cake layers are completely cooled, use the frosting to fill and cover the cake.
