Ingredients (serves 4):
For the chicken: • 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken thighs or breast, cut into bite-sized pieces • ½ cup cornstarch • 2 eggs, beaten • Salt & pepper • Oil for frying
For the sauce: • ¾ cup orange juice (fresh if possible) • ¼ cup soy sauce • ¼ cup honey or brown sugar • 1 tbsp rice vinegar • 2 tsp sesame oil • 2 garlic cloves, minced • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated • ½ tsp red chili flakes (or more to taste) • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (for slurry)
Instructions: 1. Prepare and fry the chicken: Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dip in egg, then coat in cornstarch. Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy. Set on paper towels to drain. 2. Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Simmer 2–3 min. Add slurry and stir until thickened and glossy. 3. Toss and serve: Toss crispy chicken in the sauce until fully coated. Top with sesame seeds, scallions, and orange zest. Serve immediately with rice or noodles.
