Ingredients:
For the dough: • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast • 1 tbsp sugar • 1 tsp salt • 1 cup (240ml) warm milk • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted • 1 egg
For the filling: • 1 ½ cups (170g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened • 2 cloves garlic, minced • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or chives • ¼ tsp salt • Black pepper to taste
⸻
Instructions: 1. Make the dough: In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix and knead by hand or with a mixer for 8–10 minutes until smooth. 2. Let rise: Cover and let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. 3. Prepare filling: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper. 4. Roll & fill: On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle (about 9x14”). Spread the herb butter over it, then sprinkle evenly with shredded cheese. 5. Shape the loaf: Roll the dough into a log from the long side. Slice in half lengthwise, twist the two halves around each other (cut sides facing up), and place into a greased loaf pan. 6. Second rise: Let the shaped loaf rise for 30–40 minutes. 7. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing.
