Ingredients (makes 1 star bread):
For the dough: • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour • 1 tbsp sugar • 1 tsp salt • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast • ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk • ¼ cup (60ml) water • ¼ cup (55g) unsalted butter, melted • 1 large egg
For the filling: • ¼ cup (55g) unsalted butter, softened • 2 garlic cloves, minced • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or basil • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese • Pinch of salt
For the topping: • 1 tbsp melted butter • Extra herbs & parmesan for garnish (optional)

Instructions: 1. Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes. Add melted butter, egg, flour, and salt. Knead until smooth and elastic (10 min by hand or 5 in mixer). Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour). 2. Divide & shape: Divide dough into 4 equal balls. Roll each into a 10-inch circle. Place one on a baking sheet and spread with garlic herb butter + parmesan. Repeat layering (3 layers with filling), then top with the final dough circle. 3. Form the star: Place a small glass in the center. Cut the dough into 16 equal strips around the glass. Twist each pair of strips away from each other twice, then pinch ends together to form 8 points. 4. Second rise: Cover and let rise 20–30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). 5. Bake: Brush with melted butter. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden. Sprinkle with extra herbs & cheese if desired.
