Cinnamon Apple Delight in Flaky Puff Pastry

  • Apple Turnovers

    Ingredients:
    For the Filling:
    2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
    2 tbsp butter
    3 tbsp brown sugar
    1 tsp cinnamon powder
    1 tsp lemon juice
    1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tsp water, optional for thickening)

    For the Pastry:
    1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
    1 egg (for egg wash)
    1 tbsp water

    For Topping (optional):
    Powdered sugar for dusting
    1 tbsp milk + 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for glaze)

    Instructions:
    1. Prepare the Apple Filling:
    In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
    Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
    Cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring until apples soften slightly and release juices.
    If you want a thicker filling, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook for another minute.
    Remove from heat and let it cool completely.

    2. Prepare the Pastry:
    Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
    Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
    Cut it into 4 equal squares (or desired size).

    3. Assemble the Turnovers:
    Place 1–2 tablespoons of apple filling in the center of each pastry square.
    Fold over diagonally to form a triangle.
    Seal the edges with a fork to prevent leaking.
    Place turnovers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

    4. Egg Wash:
    Whisk together egg and water.
    Brush over the tops of the turnovers for a golden finish.

    5. Bake:
    Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

    6. Add Final Touches:
    Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze (milk + sugar mixture).
