Gluten Free Cheese Scones: Golden, Fluffy, and Perfect with Butter

Golden on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle, and absolutely made for eating warm with a big smear of butter.
Perfect for morning tea, soup nights or when you just want a savoury bake that feels a bit special.

🧀 GLUTEN FREE CHEESE SCONES
Serves: 12
Prep: 10 mins
Bake: 15–20 mins
INGREDIENTS
• 2⅓ cups gluten free self-raising flour
• 3 tsp gluten free baking powder
• 1 tsp xanthan gum
• Pinch of salt
• ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
• 100g butter
• 1½ cups grated cheddar cheese
• ½ cup full cream milk
• 2 eggs
• Extra milk, for brushing
• ⅓ cup extra grated cheddar cheese
👩🍳 METHOD
Preheat oven to 200°C fan-forced.
Sift the flour, baking powder, xanthan gum, salt and cayenne into a bowl.
Rub in the butter until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir through the grated cheese.
Whisk the milk and eggs together, then fold into the dry ingredients until just combined.
Press the dough onto a lightly floured board to about 5cm thick.
Cut into rounds and place into a cake tin so they’re slightly touching.
Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with extra cheese.
Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden.
Serve warm with butter.
(And yes… one straight from the oven absolutely counts as quality control.)
