Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
1 ½ lbs ground beef
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 small onion, finely chopped (for beef mixture)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper (to taste)
2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
For the Gravy:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cups beef broth
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper (to taste)
Instructions:
Make the Patties – In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4–6 oval patties.
Cook the Steaks – Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Caramelize Onions – In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until golden and tender.
Make the Gravy – Sprinkle flour over onions, stir well, then slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
Combine & Simmer – Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over the top, and simmer on low for about 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
Serve – Plate with mashed potatoes and green beans for the ultimate comfort meal!
