Grilled BBQ Tofu Steaks

Recipe:
Ingredients:
- For the BBQ Tofu:
- 400g firm tofu
- 1 cup homemade BBQ sauce (see below)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and black pepper
- For the homemade BBQ sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- For the Coleslaw:
- 2 cups shredded red cabbage
- 2 cups shredded green cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- Salt and black pepper
Method:
1. Combine BBQ sauce ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes. Cool.
2. Press tofu for 15 minutes, slice into 1.5cm slabs, and season with salt and pepper. Marinate in BBQ sauce for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
3. Preheat grill to medium-high. Brush tofu with olive oil and grill for 4-5 minutes per side. Brush with more BBQ sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes per side.
4. Mix cabbage and carrots. Whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, maple syrup, salt, and pepper. Combine with vegetables.
5. Rest tofu for a few minutes after grilling. Serve hot with extra BBQ sauce and coleslaw.
