- 4 cups flour - 4 teaspoons baking powder - ½ teaspoon salt - ½ teaspoon soda - ½ cup sugar - ½ cup Cold maas or Buttermilk - 2 eggs - 250g Cold butter - 1 teaspoon vanilla essence - 1 extra egg for glazing (+1 Tablespoon water )
Method:
• Mix maas, sugar, essence, and eggs, then set aside.
• In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and soda, then sift.
• Grate the cold butter into the dry ingredients
• Using fingertips rub butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse, lumpy breadcrumbs.
• The mixture should have a sandy texture. Add wet ingredients and mix until you form a dough.
•Transfer to a lightly floured countertop and knead until the dough comes together into a relatively smooth ball. Take care not to knead too much, or the dough will be tougher and not rise as high.
• Cut into desired shape and size, place on a greased pan,
•Brush tops with the reserved egg wash and place in preheated oven and bake for about 20 -35 minutes or until golden.
