Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken Delight

  • Sweet & Sour Chicken

    Crispy fried chicken coated in a glossy sweet and sour sauce with bell peppers, pineapple, and onions. A takeout favorite that’s even better homemade — perfectly balanced, sticky, and delicious.

    Ingredients:

    For the chicken:
    • 1 lb boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into cubes
    • 1/2 cup cornstarch
    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 egg
    • Salt and pepper
    • Oil for frying

    For the sauce:
    • 1/2 cup ketchup
    • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)

    For the stir-fry:
    • 1 cup pineapple chunks
    • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
    • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
    • 1/2 red onion, sliced

    Instructions:
    1. Mix chicken with salt, pepper, egg, cornstarch, and flour to coat evenly.
    2. Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy. Set aside on paper towels.
    3. In a pan, cook onion and bell peppers until slightly tender. Add pineapple.
    4. In another pot, mix ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce. Bring to simmer.
    5. Add cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce.
    6. Combine chicken and veggies in the sauce. Toss well and serve hot over rice.
