Ingredients:
For the cake layer: 1 box vanilla or white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box) or use your favorite homemade sponge cake recipe For the whipped cream: 2 cups heavy whipping cream 1/3 cup powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For the fruit: 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced 1 cup fresh blueberries Fresh raspberries for garnish Optional: Mini American flag toothpicks for decoration
Instructions:
Bake the vanilla cake according to the package directions. Let it cool completely, then cut into small cubes. In a chilled bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form. Keep cold. To assemble the trifle cups, place a layer of cubed cake at the bottom of each glass or jar. Add a layer of whipped cream, followed by a layer of blueberries. Add another layer of cake cubes, then a layer of whipped cream. Press strawberry slices along the inside of the cup for a clean, decorative look. Top with a swirl or scoop of whipped cream, a raspberry, and a mini flag if desired. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.
Decoration Tips:
Press strawberry slices upright against the glass before adding the final whipped cream layer to give a clean ring effect. Use clear dessert cups or small glass jars to showcase the red, white, and blue layers. Pipe the final layer of whipped cream using a star tip for a neat, festive swirl. Top each cup with one raspberry and a mini American flag for a patriotic finish. Arrange cups on a large white or blue platter and scatter a few extra berries around for a party-ready display.
