If you’ve only ever bought them from the supermarket… you are in for a treat.
These are soft.
They’re fluffy.
They smell like cinnamon heaven.

🍞 HOMEMADE HOT CROSS BUNS
Makes: 12
Prep: 30 mins
Rise time: 45 mins
Bake: 15 mins
INGREDIENTS
Buns
1 tbs dried yeast
250g (1 cup) warm milk (not hot)
600g (4 cups) plain flour
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp salt
80g (⅓ cup) caster sugar
80g butter, softened
1 egg, lightly beaten
85g (⅓ cup) warm water
180g sultanas
Crosses
75g (½ cup) plain flour
100g water
Glaze
2 tbs caster sugar
2 tbs water
👩🍳 METHOD
Mix yeast with warm milk. Leave 15 mins until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine flour, spices, salt and sugar.
Rub in butter until crumbly.
Add yeast mixture, egg and water. Sprinkle over sultanas.
Mix to form a soft dough.
Cover and let rise 30 mins (until doubled).
Preheat oven to 200°C fan-forced.
Knead 5 mins. Divide into 12 balls.
Place in greased 20cm x 30cm tin (1cm apart).
Prove 15 mins.
Mix flour + water for crosses. Pipe on top.
Bake 15 mins (they should sound hollow when tapped).
Heat sugar + water 30 secs. Brush over warm buns.
Cool slightly… then eat one warm with butter. You deserve it.
