Blackened Chili Lime Tofu 🌿by @realizing_fitness
1 block firm tofu, pressed and cubed
2 tbsp neutral oil of choice, divided
1 tbsp tamari
1 bell pepper, sliced
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp ancho chili powder, divided
1/2 tsp smoked paprika, divided
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
2 limes, juices
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/4-1/2 tsp red chili flakes
1/4 tsp pepper
cilantro, chopped
jasmine rice
In a frying pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add tofu and cook on all sides until golden. Season with tamari and add 1/2 both chili powder and paprika. Cook until crispy and slightly blackened. Transfer to a bowl.
In the same frying pan, add remaining oil. Heat and add garlic and onions. Cook for a few minutes and then add peppers.
In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, remaining chili powder, smoked paprika, lime juice, maple syrup and red chili flakes.
Add tofu back into your frying pan and cook for a few minutes. Pour in sauce ingredients and fry. Add a little water, if necessary and adjust seasoning to suit your preferences.
I served mine with more fresh lime and cilantro on a bed of jasmine rice.
