IRRESISTIBLE FRENCH ONION BEEF SLOPPY JOES

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon ketchup (optional but adds richness & color)

1.5 to 2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

4 brioche hamburger buns (for glossy, soft texture)

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (or Gruyère for extra meltiness)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions:

Caramelize the Onions:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions with a pinch of salt and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and caramelized. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes .

Cook the Beef:
Turn heat to medium. Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 7–8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Create the Gravy Sauce:
In a small bowl, dissolve 1.5–2 teaspoons of cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of cold water to make a slurry.
Stir the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, dried thyme, salt, and pepper into the skillet. Then, stir in the cornstarch slurry.
Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.

Toast the Buns:
Preheat the broiler. Slice the brioche buns and lightly butter the cut sides. Toast them under the broiler until golden brown — about 1 minute.

Assemble the Sandwiches:
Spoon a generous portion of the saucy beef-onion mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with a mound of shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese. Place under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until melted and bubbly.

Serve:
Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately. Get ready for compliments!
