Easy homemade Sandwich Bread
Ingredients
• 357 g (2 3/4 cups) all-purpose or bread flour
• 210 ml (1 cup – 2 tbsp) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
• 1 tsp instant yeast (or 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast)
• 1 tsp salt
• 42.6 g (3 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
• 1 tbsp sugar or honey (add if you prefer a slightly sweeter bread)
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast)
• Mix warm water, sugar (or honey), and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
• If using instant yeast, you can skip this step and add it directly with the flour.
2. Mix the Dough
• In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
• Add the yeast mixture (or water, sugar, and instant yeast directly) and softened butter.
• Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough
• Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
• If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook for 6–7 minutes.
4. First Rise
• Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the Dough
• Punch down the dough to release air.
• Roll it into a rectangle, then tightly roll into a loaf shape.
• Place into a greased 8x4-inch loaf pan.
6. Second Rise
• Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes, until the dough has risen slightly above the rim of the pan.
7. Bake
• Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
• Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown on top and hollow-sounding when tapped.
8. Cool
• Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
This bread turns out soft, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast.
