  • Ingredients:

    For the crust layer:

    1 box chocolate cake mix

    1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

    1 large egg

    For the filling:

    1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened

    2 large eggs

    1 tsp pure vanilla extract

    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

    3 1/2 cups powdered sugar

    1 cup chopped pecans

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

    In a large bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg until a soft dough forms. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

    In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract; beat until combined.

    Mix in cocoa powder and melted butter until incorporated. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until smooth.

    Stir in chopped pecans.

    Pour filling over the crust and spread evenly.

    Bake for 45–50 minutes. The center should be slightly gooey — do not overbake.

    Cool completely before slicing into squares. Serve as is or top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
