1 lb ground beef π₯©
2 tsp chili powder πΆοΈ
1 tsp smoked paprika π§
1/2 tsp cumin πΏ
1 tsp onion powder π§
1/2 cup tomato ketchup π
2 tbsp yellow mustard π
2 tbsp brown sugar π¬
1/2 cup water π§
Dash of hot sauce πΆοΈ
Directions
In a medium-sized skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into fine pieces as it cooks.
Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat.
Add the chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and onion powder to the beef. Stir to combine, allowing the spices to enhance the flavor of the beef for about 1-2 minutes.
Lower the heat and add the tomato ketchup, yellow mustard, brown sugar, and water to the skillet. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
Increase the heat slightly and let the mixture simmer. Stir occasionally and allow it to cook until the sauce thickens, roughly 20 minutes.
Finish by adding a dash of hot sauce for a bit of heat, adjusting to your preference. Stir well before serving.
Serve the hot dog sauce over grilled hot dogs tucked into toasted buns for a classic Appalachian treat.
