Start crocheting with light green yarn 1 - 6 sc in a magic ring 2 - 6 inc (12) 3 - (sc, inc) * 6 (18) 4 - 18 sc in the back loops only (this creates a clear ridge) 5-8 (4 rounds) - 18 sc 9 - 17 sc, do not complete the round (you will have a gap with unworked stitches)
(Insert safety eyes between rounds 8 and 7, approximately 3 stitches apart. Embroider the cheeks and mouth. Stuff the piece firmly.)
(The following work is divided into 3 parts)
First "Floret" (Top Center): 10 - Work 6 sc into the unworked stitches from round 9 and join to form a small ring. 11, 12 - 6 sc (Switch to a darker green yarn) 13 - 6 inc (12) 14 - (sc, 4 dc-cluster in the next stitch) * repeat to the end of the round. A cluster (cl) is made by working 4 dc into the same stitch but leaving the last loop of each on the hook, then yarn over and pull through all loops. 15 - (4 dc-cluster in the next stitch, sc) * repeat to the end of the round. (Stuff this floret) 16 - 6 dec (6), close the opening, fasten off and weave in the yarn tail.
Second "Floret" (Side): (Reattach the dark green yarn to the first free sc from round 9) 10 - Work 3 sc along one side of the main broccoli body and 3 sc along the other side, creating a new ring of 6 sc. 11, 12 - 6 sc (Switch to a darker green yarn here if you haven't already attached it) 13 - 6 inc (12) 14 - (sc, inc) * 6 (18) 15 - (sc, 4 dc-cluster in the next stitch) * repeat to the end of the round. 16 - (4 dc-cluster in the next stitch, sc) * repeat to the end of the round. 17 - (sc, dec) * 6 (12) (Stuff this floret) 18 - 6 dec (6), close the opening, fasten off and weave in the yarn tail.
Third "Floret" (Other Side): (Repeat the sequence for the second floret) Reattach the yarn to the next free scs from round 9 and repeat rows 10-16 as for the first floret (or 10-18 as for the second, depending on the intended size). Stuff and close.
